Eine ausreichende Menge Wasser hilft zweifellos in mindestens sechs Bereichen bei der Pflege der Gesundheit.

  • Das Trinken von Wasser erhält das Gleichgewicht der Körperflüssigkeiten aufrecht
    Wasser stellt den größten Teil unserer Körpermasse dar und erfüllt zahlreiche lebenswichtige Funktionen. Alkohol stört die Kommunikation zwischen dem Gehirn und den Nieren und verursacht eine übermäßige Flüssigkeitsausscheidung, was zur Dehydrierung führt.
  • Wasser hilft dabei, die Kalorienzufuhr zu kontrollieren
    Wasser hat zwar keine Wunderwirkung auf das Körpergewicht, aber es hilft vor allem unter dem Gesichtspunkt des Ersatzes von Kalorien, die sich in den übrigen Getränken verstecken. Wasser hilft in Kombination mit Speisen, die ebenfalls viel Wasser enthalten, die tägliche Kalorienzufuhr spürbar zu senken. Speisen mit einem hohen Wassergehalt haben nämlich ein größeres Volumen (psychologische Wirkung), erfordern in der Regel mehr Kauen und werden langsamer absorbiert, wodurch man eher satt ist. Die amerikanische Fakultät American College of Sports Medicine hat Richtlinien für die Flüssigkeitsaufnahme veröffentlicht und empfiehlt, zwei Stunden vor einer Aktivität bereits einen halben Liter Flüssigkeit zu trinken und auch während der Aktivität und natürlich danach in regelmäßigen Abständen zu trinken.
  • Wasser trägt zu einem schöneren Aussehen der Haut bei
    Die Haut enthält viel Wasser und wirkt als eine Art Schutzbarriere, die einen übermäßigen Flüssigkeitsverlust verhindert. In dehydriertem Zustand ist die Haut trocken und faltig, bei einer ausreichenden Menge Wasser im Körper ist sie strahlender und straffer. Feuchtigkeitscremes halten im Wesentlichen das Wasser in der Haut und verbessern infolgedessen das Aussehen. Leider kann Wasser aber Falten und Linien im Gesicht nicht ausradieren :).
  • Wasser hilft den Nieren
    Die Körperflüssigkeiten transportieren Stoffe in die Zellen und aus den Zellen. Wenn man nicht ausreichend Wasser zu sich nimmt, zieht der Dickdarm dieses aus dem Kot, was zu Verstopfung führt. Wasser und Ballaststoffe in ausreichenden Mengen sind eine perfekte Kombination, da das Wasser die Ballaststoffe durch den Darm transportiert und sie zusammen wie ein Besen wirken.
